Harem Thread, for nachetanya
This was, by all accounts, a dismal situation. A lot of Shinobi training was based on tradition, with Good Shinobi serving the crown, and Evil Shinobi answering to private interests. Not only did this keep both sides sharp for when the time came to keep the unknowing public safe from monsters, it meant they acted as their own checks and balances, one side able to check the other from acting too directly and upsetting the balance of power in the nation.
Or at least, that was the idea. The line between Good and Evil as Shinobi used the words had already been pretty blurry, but it turned into a mess as the country had been getting more and more militaristic, the church and the guilds having more direct influence over the court. And their own interests becoming a tangled mess turned into a perfect storm when the Demon Lord arose once more, which their sponsors decided to declade a "failure of the Kagura" and dissolve the traditional Shinobi houses to take more directly control.
While Shinobi were trained to serve, this... wasn't ideal. It removed the autonomy that helped prevent themselves being used for tyranny. And more pressingly, it made them direct servants of whoever ended up holding their leash. For a lot of established Shinobi, it was a case of carefully choosing the highest bidder. For trainees? They were stuck with whoever best exploited the complicated chain of custody associated with their training.
And for five in particular, than had nearly been a 60-year-old noble of the court, a notorious womanizer despite his less-than-fetching appearance. Not an enviable position for a bunch of busty young girls without the clout to say no without being declared renegade and hunted down by their former friends. In an incredibly stroke of fortune, he'd been overridden by one of the few people who could do such a thing - the controversial Crown Princess demanding the five Shinobi as personal tribute.
And that was how they ended up where they were now. Asuka, Ikaruga, Yumi, Yozakura, and Imu, all kneeling before Nachetanya in her private chambers. An odd assortment who would normally never work together, but normal times were permanently over.
